My original choice of bikes back in early 98 were the Shadow Spirit and the 650 Star classic. I had already started the finance paperwork, and may have been approved for all I remember, when on a whim Lisa and I went to the Suzuki dealership. Saw the orange Savage on the floor, called the finance company, and switched the paperwork over to the Savage from the star. The same size motor displacement, air cooled, lightweight, no damned shaft drive, and alot less money for the Savage. Would I own a Star? Only if it was given to me. My first choice is still "real" Harleys (meaning 6 volt kick start springer hardtails-read Knuckle or early Pan), but most of the time I've been quite happy with the Savage. Even with all the quirks, electrical gremlins, pathetic chrome, and low grade paint quality that I dealt with not long after buying it. Keep the Savage unless you just really want the sound or look of a v-twin, the twin scene is becoming awfully close to the VW Bug "bellybutton" phenomenon of the 60s and early 70s, where in other words, everyone had one.
